// Zero downtime · Flag by flag · Clean-up included

Feature flag migration to LaunchDarkly

Move off home-grown toggles, config files, environment variables or Firebase Remote Config without a risky big-bang switch. We migrate flag by flag, run old and new side by side, and clean up what you no longer need.

What's included

Everything you need, nothing you don't.

Flag auditFind every toggle in code, config and databases
MappingTranslate each flag and rule into LaunchDarkly
Parallel runCompare old and new results before switching
Code wrapperChange flag calls once, in one place
Safe cutoverMove one service at a time, with a way back
Clean-upRemove dead flags and the old system

How it works

Four steps.

  1. 01InventoryList every flag, owner and where it's used
  2. 02MapRecreate flags, rules and segments
  3. 03Parallel runVerify both systems agree
  4. 04Cut overSwitch service by service, then clean up

Signs it's time to migrate

Home-grown flags usually start as a config value and grow into a system nobody owns. Common signs: changing a flag needs a deploy, only engineers can turn things on, nobody knows which flags are still used, there's no audit trail, and percentage rollouts or targeting by market are hard or impossible. If that sounds familiar, a migration pays for itself quickly.

How we keep it safe

We never switch everything at once. A small wrapper lets your code ask one interface for flag values while we move flags behind it. During the parallel run we check that LaunchDarkly returns the same values as your current system. Only then do we switch each service over, keeping the old path available until you're confident.

FAQ

Common questions

Will migrating cause downtime?

No. We migrate flag by flag behind a wrapper and run both systems in parallel, so there's no hard cutover moment.

Can you migrate from Firebase Remote Config?

Yes. It's a common starting point for mobile teams. We map parameters and conditions to LaunchDarkly flags and targeting rules.

We use another feature flag vendor. Can you migrate us?

Yes. The approach is the same: inventory, map, run in parallel, then cut over.

Do we have to change code everywhere flags are used?

Usually once. We introduce a small flag wrapper, so most of the change happens in one place.

What happens to old, unused flags?

We flag them for removal during the audit and help you delete them from code, so you start on LaunchDarkly with a clean slate.
